Hunewill Ranch

There has been a ranch here since 1861 founded by the original Hunewill family. It is situated within driving distance of Yosemite National Park in the beautiful Mono Valley to the east of the Sierra Mountains. This is a 4500-acre working ranch situated at 6500ft above sea level. Riding is the main pass time here and six days a week you can ride the irrigated grassy meadows surrounded by towering mountains.
The main ranch house is of a Victorian clapboard design and dates back to the early years of the ranch. Guest accommodation is generally in a number of multi-roomed cabins; the price you pay is dependant on the size of the cabin. There is also a Victorian suite in the ranch house with a queen-sized bed.
The Hunewill can offer riding to all levels of ability but the better you are the easier it will be when you take those ponies up into the mountains. When the riding has been done there are a number of evening activities such as creekside cookouts, campfire
sing-a-longs, hayrides and square dancing. At the end of May there is an opportunity to join the staff on a 4-day package to improve your cowboy skill driving cattle to their summer pasture and this is repeated in the other direction in mid September.
The ranch opens on 24th May and closes 6th September. Your stay is from Saturday to Saturday but as the ranch is located well away from main airports, the nearest in Reno, Nevada (approx.115 miles). No transfers are provided so a hire car is required.
