1. Welcome to Philadelphia. Tour begins: Hyatt Regency Philadelphia Hotel at 5:00 PM. Welcome to Philadelphia, first capital of the United States, location of the First and Second Continental Congress, and the "City of Brotherly Love." Join us this evening for a welcome reception and dinner. Meals D
2. Amish Country / Gettysburg. Your journey through America's past begins with a h orse-drawn carriage ride through the beautiful tree-lined streets of Philadelphia. Visit Independence Hall, site of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and home of the Liberty Bell before journeying to Lancaster County, home of the Amish. With their simple ways, the Amish still live very much as their ancestors did, without all the modern conveniences that we take for granted. Gain insights into the Amish culture during a tour with a local guide and continue on your tour to Gettysburg. Meals BLD
3. The Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg. Visit the somber grounds of Gettysburg National Military Park, where thousands lost their lives on Gettysburg's battlefields; it is a poignant reminder of the complex history of the Civil War. Visit also the Gettysburg National Cemetery, where President Abraham Lincoln delivered his immortal "Gettysburg Address" on November 19, 1863. Travel south, crossing the Mason / Dixon Line into West Virginia, continuing into Virginia through rolling orchard country to the rustic, but spectacular Shenandoah National Park. Meals BLD
4. Legacy of Thomas Jefferson. - and dine in a tavern. Journey to Charlottesville and explore Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's fantastic colonial mansion, then on to the capital of the Confederacy, Richmond, for a drive down Monument Avenue, a National Historic Landmark for its 19th-century town houses and statues. Spend the next two nights in Colonial Williamsburg; dinner tonight is at one of Williamsburg's famous taverns, featuring Colonial-era fare. Meals BLD
5. Living history at Williamsburg. Explore Colonial Williamsburg, restored to its 1770 grandeur as the economic and political hub of Britain's largest colony in the New World. Meet historic interpreters in colonial dress who represent actual citizens from 18th-century Williamsburg. Step back in time in this living history museum and see the Capitol Building, still flying the British flag; Raleigh Tavern, a favorite meeting place of delegates to the House of Burgesses; the Governor's Palace; Bruton Parish Church; and many other historic colonial homes and shops. 6. Historic Jamestown and a Washington, DC tour by night. Depart Williamsburg today for visits to Jamestown, founded in 1607 as the first permanent English settlement in the "New World," You have an opportunity to contrast three cultures that converged here - Powhatan Indians, the English and the Africans - at a lecture, and take a walking tour to see gallery exhibitions focusing on America's early heritage. 7. From historic Mount Vernon to a Washington, DC tour by day. From Washington, DC tour the beloved estate of George Washington. Overlooking the Potomac River, you'll be one of the first to explore the newly-opened interactive museum on a tour of the mansion and landscaped grounds. Depart Mount Vernon and take a Washington, DC tour that features such stirring sights as the poignant memorials to those who served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnamise wars, as well as the Lincoln Memorial.
