Independent rail tour
There can be few better ways to enjoy eastern Canada's great cities than by rail. From cosmopolitan Toronto and Niagara Falls, to the country's capital city - Ottawa. Then on to beautiful Quebec City - the only walled city in North America, and finally to Montreal with it's French character, excellent cuisine and great nightlife.
This tour is operated by our Canadian partner Jonview Canada and departs daily between 24 April and 31 October.
Day 1. Arrive Toronto. Arrive in Toronto's International Airport and transfer independently to your downtown hotel for a three-night stay. Pick up your information kit at the front desk upon check-in. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore Canada's commercial and cultural centre. Ovenright in Toronto.
Day 2. Toronto. Discover the many identities of this cosmopolitan city on a sightseeing tour of Toronto. Highlights include the Provincial Parliament Buildings, City Hall, the financial district, Chinatown, residential areas, and the waterfront. Admission to the CN Tower, standing 335.33 metres tall, is included. Ride the glass-fronted elevators to the top of the world's tallest structure and take in unforgettable views of Toronto and Lake Ontario. The remainder of the day is free for independent exploration, shopping and simple relaxation. Overnight in Toronto.
Day 3. Niagara Falls excursion. Enjoy a full-day sightseeing excursion to Niagara Falls. The route takes you through the lush fruit growing district and wine region of the Niagara Peninsula. Marvel at the spectacle of the famous Niagara Falls and step aboard the Maid of the Mist for a fantastic boat trip to the foot of the Horseshoe Falls. You will have ample time at the Falls to take pictures and admire the thundering waters or stroll into town. Highlights include a meal and a trip along the beautiful Niagara Parkway, which winds its way along the Niagara Gorge. Pass through the historic community of Niagara-On-The-Lake before returning to Toronto in the evening. Lunch included. Overnight in Toronto.
Day 4. VIA Rail / The Corridor - Toronto to Ottawa. This morning, transfer independently to Union Station to board VIA Rails's The Corridor train to Ottawa. You will be passing quaint little towns along Lake Ontario, the historic city of Kingston and the Thousand Islands region. Upon arrival in Ottawa, the remainder of the day is free to explore the charms of Canada's capital city. Take a stroll along the famous Rideau Canal (designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site), or discover what the bustling Byward Market
has to offer. Overnight in Ottawa.
Day 5. Ottawa. Enjoy a two-hour sightseeing tour of Ottawa today. You'll see the Parliament Buildings, Embassy Row, the Royal Canadian Mint, the National Gallery of Canada, the National Aviation Museum, the National War Museum, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, the residence of the Prime Minister and Govenor-General, the RCMP Museum and Stables, the National Arts Centre and much more.
You'll drive through scenic gardens and parklands and along the Rideau Canal. This comprehensive sightseeing tour is special as it allows you to step on and off at any of the stops along the route to fully experience the charming nation's capital. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore the city's many museums, galleries and boutiques. Overnight in Ottawa.
Day 6. VIA Rail / The Corridor - Ottawa to Quebec City. Today depart from Ottawa on board The Corridor to Quebec City. You'll be leaving the capital region of Ottawa and heading for the Laurentians. Past Montreal, the train will be riding along the southern shore of the St Lawrence River, passing charming little towns and villages in the beautiful French-Canadian countryside. The remainder of the day is free to explore fascinating Quebec City and experience the energetic nightlife. Overnight in Quebec City.
Day 7. Quebec City. Today you will explore historic and modern Quebec City on a morning sightseeing tour. Quebec City is the only city in North America with city walls and gates earning it a United Nations World Heritage Site distinction in 1985. Discover the historical treasures and wonderful "joie de vivre" atmosphere of Quebec. Your guide provides narration while you see the Latin Quarter, the Plains of Abraham, the Fortifications, the National Assembly, Place Royale, the Basilica and many more points of interest. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city or indulge at one of the many fine restaurants. Overnight in Quebec City.
Day 8. VIA Rail / The Corridor - Quebec City to Montreal. Hop on the train today for a short ride to Montreal. This time, you'll be travelling along the northern shore of the St. Lawrence River passing historic Trois-Rivieres and charming Cap-de-la-Madeleine with its national shrine to the Virgin Mary. Upon reaching the bustling metropolis of Montreal, prepare for an afternoon of exploring the second largest French-speaking city after Paris! Walk down lively St.Catherine Street with its numerous shops and cafes. Sample the fine cuisine and exuberant nightlife. Overnight in Montreal.
Day 9. Montreal. Today, you will be going on a 3-hour sightseeing tour of Montreal. You'll see numerous highlights, such as the Notre Dame Basilica, the financial and residential districts, historic Old Montreal, the charming Latin Quarter and much more. You will visit the Olympic Complex, travel through the campus of McGill University and savour the panoramic views from an observation point on top of Mount Royal. Overnight in Montreal.
Day 10. VIA Rail / The Corridor - Montreal to Toronto. Today is your departure from Montreal to Toronto on board VIA Rail's The Corridor. Upon arrival at Toronto's Union Station, your tour ends. Transfer independently to Toronto's International Airport and check in for your homebound flights. Alternatively, Just America will be pleased to assist with onward flights to other destinations, or additional nights in Toronto or Niagara Falls.
