From the earliest Pilgrims at Plymouth to the whaling era on Nantucket and the age of the Great Gatsby in Newport, step back in time on this memorable New England vacation.  Experience 17th-century life first-hand at Plimoth Plantation; visit the homesteads of two U.S. presidents; and go inside the largest whaling museum in America.  Explore centuries of history in Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Cape Cod, and Newport; special experiences include a scenic flight from Martha's Vineyard to Nantucket, a whale-watching cruise off the shores of Provincetown, and a tour of The Breakers, one of Newport's most extravagant Gilded Age mansions.

Day 1. Arrive Boston.  Tour begins: 18.30 at the Boston ParkPlaza Hotel.  A transfer is included from Boston Logan Airport to the Boston Park Plaza Hotel situated in the heart of picturesque, historic Boston.  A welcome reception and dinner tonights gets your New England vacation off to a wonderful start.  Meals: D

Day 2. Plimoth heritage and Martha's Vineyard. Travel with us to Plymouth this morning, where the pilgrims first stepped ashore in 1620.  Visit Plimoth Plantation and see the famed Plymouth Rock.  After some free time in Falmouth, a ferry ride from the mainland takes you to the island of Martha's Vineyard.  Whether you call it chic, fashionable, posh, quaint, charming or trendy, it is one of the hottest New England vacation destinations and where you'll spend the next two nights of your New England holiday, in the former whaling centre of Edgartown.  Meals: BD

Day 3. Explore 17th - and 21st - century Martha's Vineyard.  You'll bridge the centuries by exploring the Vineyard today.  Start your sightseeing by admiring the historic stately homes in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.  Take in the salt marshes, long beaches, and picturesque yacht harbors.  Meals: B

Day 4. Whaling days on Nantucket.  Explore a different New England island today when you take a flight from Martha's Vineyard to Nantucket, one of the country's most important whaling towns two centuries ago.  Admire the Colonial architecture, winding cobbled streets, and historic taverns in the quaint harbourside town, a National Historic Landmark District.  See the coastal heathlands and long barrier beaches; approximately 40 percent of Nantucket is preserved as conservation land.  Take a ferry to Hyannis and travel to the quaint village of Brewster for the next two nights.  Arrive at you seaside resort in Brewster, designed around an 1890 mansion overlooking Cape Cod Bay. Meals: BD

Day 5. Whale-watching cruise and the seashore.  Visit the Cape Cod National Seashore on the outer Atlantic side of the Cape with massive sand dunes above crested seas.  Arrive in Provincetown on the tip of the Cape, another historic whaling town due to Stellwagan Bank National Marine Sanctuary offshore, the summering grounds for a number of whale species.  Weather permitting, take a guided whale-watching cruise to see them roll, flip their tails, and blow through their blowholes - a true highlight of your New England vacation.  Have dinner back in Chatham this evening..  Meals: BD

Day 6. History in New Bedford and  Newport.  Your New England vacation continues in New Bedford, an historic seaport on the Atlantic coast, where you'll visit the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the nation's largest museum devoted to the history of whaling.  Arrive in Newport, Rhode Island, a long-time haven for yachting enthusiasts and former home of the America's Cup. Drive past some of the ostentatious mansions that served as summer houses for affluent socialites during the Gilded Age, and travel the celebrated Ten-Mile Drive. Meals: BL

Day 7. A New England vacation day in Newport.  Your Tauck Director for a morning stroll along the oceanfront Cliff Walk before visiting The Breakers on a guided tour; one of the most palatial estates in Newport, this magnificent mansion was the seaside summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt.  Sightseeing continues with a cruise of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay, followed by free time.  Join us tonight for a cocktail reception and dinner.  Meals: BD

Day 8. Quincy / Journey Home:  Discover the presidential legacy of the Adams family in Adams National Historical Park in Quincy en route to Boston.  Tour ends: 12.30pm at Boston's Logan International Airport, or 13.30 at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel (traffic permitting). Meals: B
