Days 1, 2
& 3 Greater Boston, MA The "Athens of America" is yours to discover: explore
the Freedom Trail, shop at Quincy Market, enjoy a dinner cruise on Boston Harbor. Visit our Welcome Meeting for sightseeing and attractions at special rates. Overnight: Doubletree Downtown Boston.
Day 4. To Mid Coast Maine (107 miles) Collect your rental car from the Boston Airport depot and travel north along the coast into Maine. Visit Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, continue to Portland, with its restored waterfront. Overnight: Eastland Park Hotel
Days 5, 6 & 7. To Bar Harbor Area, ME (162 miles) Head north to Freeport for factory outlet shopping. Arrive at the entrance to Acadia National Park on Mt. Desert Island. Enjoy a whale watch cruise, visit the Oceanarium or marvel at the incomparable scenery in the park. Overnight: Atlantic Oakes
Days 8 & 9. To White Mountains (317 miles) In the White Mountains, drive to the top of Mt. Washington, shop the factory outlets. (If traveling to Lincoln, journey along the Kancamagus Highway.) Take the Conway Scenic Railroad or visit the Lakes Region. Overnight: Eagle Mountain House.
Days 10 & 11. To Lake Champlain Area, VT (110 miles) If you spent the night in Jackson or North Conway, travel the Kancamagus Highway to Lincoln. Continue north to Franconia Notch. Travel into Vermont. Treat yourself to a tour of Ben and Jerry's ice cream factory. Continue to Lake Champlain. Overnight: University Inn & Suites.
Days 12 & 13. To Green Mountains (83 miles)
Visit Shelburne Museum's restored buildings, gardens and the side-wheeler, SS Ticonderoga. Stop at Quechee Gorge, Vermont's Mini Grand Canyon, for breathtaking vistas. Woodstock is a quintessential New England village. Overnight: Holiday Inn Rutland.
Days 14 & 15. To Sturbridge, MA (197 miles) Travel to Rutland, once center of the Vermont marble industry. Stop in quaint Manchester Village, visit the Francine Clarke Art Institute in Williamstown, or the restored 19th century Hancock Shaker Village. Continue to Lenox, summer home of Boston Symphony, and to Stockbridge where The Norman Rockwell Museum houses many of his works. Old Sturbridge Village illustrates life in the 1830s. Overnight: Sturbridge Host Hotel.
Days 16, 17 & 18. To Newport, RI (127 miles) Visit Connecticut's Mystic Sea
port Museum en route to Newport, summer resort of America's first millionaires. Tour the Cliff Walk and Ten Mile Drive with its extravagant mansions. The restored waterfront features many shops and restaurants. Overnight: Hotel Viking.
Days 19, 20 & 21. Newport to Cape Cod, MA (75 miles) Travel to Cape Cod, a fabulous resort with white sandy beaches and an abundance of attractions. Plan a whale watch cruise, visit historic Chatham or colorful, artistic Provincetown. Take a day trip to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, lounge on the beach. Overnight: Sheraton Four Points Hyannis.
Day 22. To Boston, MA (75 miles) En route to Logan Airport, visit Sandwich, the Cape's oldest town. Head for Plymouth and Plimoth Plantation, a living museum of 1627 life.
