Yellowstone National Park, the United States' first national park, is a contrast of alpine lakes, forests, canyons and hot spring geysers.

From Salt Lake City to Mount Rushmore, embark on a true adventure through America's classic west.

1. Arrive Salt Lake City.  Tour begins: Hilton Salt Lake City Center at 6:00 PM. Welcome to Salt Lake City, Utah's political and cultural center that is silhouetted by the lovely Wasatch Mountains. We invite you to join us this evening for a welcome reception that is followed by dinner. Meals:D

2. Discover Salt Lake City. Salt Lake City and environs are rich in contrasts. City sightseeing includes the interesting downtown architecture, the State Capitol, beautiful residential areas and "This is the Place" Monument. It was here that Brigham Young, with a small band of followers, envisioned the building of this great Mormon city. Travel to the site of the 2002 Winter Olympics; the remainder of the afternoon is at your leisure. You may choose to visit Temple Square, The Tabernacle, Beehive House or the famous Family History Library. This evening, learn all about the ecology of the Great Salt Lake Basin during a fascinating RAVEN-series lecture on the topic.  Meals: B

3. Utah / Idaho / Wyoming. Travel north along the edge of the Great Salt Lake into Idaho and have a pioneer lunch on a visit to the National Oregon/California Trail Center. Arrive in the state of Wyoming, the soul of the rugged West, boasting spectacular mountains, silver streams, oil wells, endless grasslands, cowboys and warm, hospitable people. Enjoy a brief visit in the town of Jackson before traveling to magnificent Grand Teton National Park, surrounded by soaring peaks. During your stay, participate in an interpretive walk on the park's natural and social history. Overnight right in the heart of the park at the beautiful Jackson Lake Lodge. Meals: BL

4. Snake River / Tetons. Take a scenic ten-mile raft trip on the Snake River, surrounded by deeply carved valleys. The remainder of the day is free to enjoy the optional activities that are available at Jackson Lake Lodge from horse-riding to fishing. Meals: BD

5. Yellowstone National Park. See sparkling Jenny Lake, arriving midday in Yellowstone National Park - the world's first national park - established in 1872.  Approximately every 90 minutes Old Faithful shoots a plume of steam skyward! You will have an opportunity this afternoon to volunteer on a special service project with park experts, made possible by Tauck's long-standing relationship with the parks. Meals: BLD

6. Yellowstone - Geysers and Canyon. With 10,000 hot springs, thundering waterfalls, two-thirds of all geysers in the world and endless lush forests, Yellowstone inspires awe. Follow the Firehole River to the amazing Fountain Paint Pot, a collection of bubbling, hissing colorful mud pots. View the spectacular "Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone," carved by the churning waters of Yellowstone River. Spend tonight along the tranquil shores of beautiful Yellowstone Lake. Meals: BD

7. Explore Historic Cody.  Drive down winding mountain roads to the open oil and cattle lands found in western Wyoming - truly cowboy country! Founded by frontiersman "Buffalo" Bill Cody in 1896, Cody did not change much during the 20th-century. Visit the Buffalo Bill Historical Center which includes the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Draper Museum of Natural History and the Plains Indian Museum. Meals: BD

8. Bighorn Mountains. Traverse the beautiful canyons this morning into the Bighorn Mountains, where cowboys work amidst stunning blankets of seasonal flowers in high altitude grassland. Enjoy a true taste of Western outdoor life at The Ranch At Ucross. Meals: BLD

9. Mount Rushmore / Crazy Horse. Travel into the Black Hills of South Dakota, famous for granite needles, lakes and green forests. Visit the Crazy Horse Memorial, the largest statue in the world. Arrive at Mount Rushmore National Memorial; looming high above you, on the granite walls of a mountain, see carved in rock the faces of former presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Your first view of Mount Rushmore will be memorable! Journey to Rapid City, and join us this evening for a farewell reception and dinner. Meals: BLD

10. Journey Home. Tour ends: Rapid City, South Dakota. Fly home anytime; a transfer to the airport is included. Allow a minimum of two hours for flight check-in. Meals: B

Inside the National Parks Jackson Lake Lodge - Grand Teton National Park, WY
Perched on a bluff overlooking Jackson Lake, with the magnificent Tetons rising up from the valley floor, the resort enjoys spectacular views. Explore the fascinating Snake River, wetlands, lakes, and lush valleys from the heart of the national park.

Old Faithful Inn - Yellowstone National Park, WY
One of the largest log structures in the world, Old Faithful Inn was designated a National Historic Landmark. Built in 1904 of native lodgepole pine, it is set within walking distance of Old Faithful Geyser, just one of Yellowstone's many geysers, fumaroles and boiling hot springs.

Lake Yellowstone Hotel - Yellowstone National Park, WY
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel was originally completed in 1891 and has recently been renovated to its 1920's grandeur. Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake above 7,000 ft. in North America, renowned as a haven for birds and wildlife amidst the nation's first national park.
